The case for the creation of a new Prime Meridian. Personal project, TBA.
PLANNED PROJECT
This project is a slightly humorous one - it started with an observation on a certain edition of a world map where Russia’s easternmost tip, the Chukchi Peninsula, was cut off to align the map to the international date line (or so I thought). What started with an idea to change a prime meridian to fix a slightly annoying map, led to an exploration of the history of timekeeping, the current standard we use for timezones, how that affects maps and countries, and why we should create an alternative to the Greenwich Observatory: Bundessternwarte Nurnberg.
Currently looking for someone to collaborate with on this project! Send me an email if you are interested.
